U3A DÉNIA’S ‘GOOD CAUSE’
REGIONAL DIRECTOR OF JUSTICE AND WELFARE CENTRE VISIT TO THE RESIDENTIAL HOME FOR CHILDREN TAKEN INTO CARE – LAS ROTES, DÉNIA – U3A DÉNIA’S ‘GOOD CAUSE’
The territorial director of Justice and Social Welfare, Lucia Ceron, this morning visited the reception centre La Casa des Menores, Les Rotes in Dénia, accompanied by Council of Citizen Participation, Marcela Server; Social Welfare , Pepa Sivera, and Municipal Services, Sisco Signes, and the center’s director, Juan Antonio Fernandez. The purpose of the visit was to view the work which has been carried out by a group of volunteers from the U3A Dénia. The volunteers have completely redecorated all the bedrooms, corridors and communal rooms at the home since February this year.
Funding for the acquisition of the necessary material has been provided by the members of U3A Dénia and a donation of 500 Euros from Lodge 58 Xavea Masons. Some local companies, Marina Color, have also contributed by providing materials and paint.
The territorial director thanked the U3A its work, noting that “people like that are necessary” in our society and encouraging “that sets an example” of the British volunteers.
Ceron Lucia noted some requests for the school management, such as installing a hand rail on the very steep stairs – some of the youngest children have to come down backwards to prevent them from falling.
Chris Whitehead, representing the U3A volunteers, has assured that their activity has been very successful, “we have had a great time” doing the work and working with center staff and expressed the intention to continue working on other improvements when they have raised sufficient funds. The members of the U3A Dénia have also purchased a 4 metre round plastic pool for the children to enjoy.
