OLIVA NOVA GOLF COURSE TUESDAY 1ST OF October 2013 Quote of the Day:- “The most important shot in golf is the next one.” – Ben Hogan. Today Tuesday, we played a Singles Stableford Competition at Oliva Nova, and today we had a total of 44 players. In that 44 players, we had three guests, namely Rex Butcher, David Hack and Norma Hack. The best guest score of the day was 35 points scored by Rex Butcher. The course was again in excellent condition, and we have, this season, been privileged to have had this course in this condition, with the greens back to their best, the fairways like velvet, albeit a little overwatered in places. The course was playing longer than usual today, either that, or the ball was not running so far on the fairways.

The results of the Singles Stableford were as follows :-

Division 1

1st Place was Martin Gates with 35 points playing off 5.2

2nd Place was Donal Murphy with 34 Points playing off 15.9

3rd Place was Andrew Harrison with 34 Points playing off 12.9, and beaten only on countback

Divison 2

1st place was Linda Davies with 35 Points playing off 28.7

2nd Place was Alan Simpson with 33 Points playing off 23.2

3rd Place was Chris Brookes with 32 Points playing off 20.2

There were three two’s today, one by David Collins from 50 feet, and two by Martin Gates in the same round, so congratulations to both, but especially for Martin with two 2’s in one round. As it was a roll over from last week, the kitty was overflowing today, and Martin kindly donated his share of the kitty (66%) to the Captain’s charity. Well done Martin !!!!

The “Balls in the Water” prize was won today by two members, namely Colin Davies and Bill Pike with a total of 110. They shared the rollover pot of 130 Euros between them.

Nearest the hole at Hole 3 with 2.09 meters was John Evans, not 100% fit as yet, and at hole 16 the closest was John Saint at 1.74 meters.

It was a great day, and to all our winners hearty congratulations.
