Pego Golf Society – Oliva Nova – March 13th
A full field of 49 society members plus three guests enjoyed fantastic weather for this week’s stableford competition. Most of the fairways at Oliva Nova were in excellent condition but there were mixed reviews on the greens, the prize winners being unanimous in their positive view of the putting surfaces! The Society Captain, Stevie Patton, called on Dave Phillips to announce the winners in the sweeps competitions and was particularly happy when Dave presented him with the rolled over Balls in the Water cash for his correct guess of 131. There were four 2’s this week and the pot was shared between Johnny Evans, Mike Holloway, Danny Herron and Donna Green. Stevie then went on to announce the prize winners in the main competition:
Category 1
Winner – Brian Redfearn with 37 points off a handicap of 6.9
Runner up – Mike Holloway with 37 points, but losing on countback, off 9.0
Third – Donna Green with 36 points off 14.0
Category 2
Winner – Johnny Evans with an excellent 38 points off 19.4
Runner up – Dave Bell with 36 points off 18.0
Third – Roger Brown with 34 points off 21.8
The Nearest the Pin prizes were won by Alan Barwick on the 3rd and by Johnny Evans on the 16th.
The Guest Prize was won by Clive Wright with 32 points off 11.
There were two matches in our Knockout Competition, where the Bakers proved victorious with Trevor (giving 11 strokes) beating Ronnie Berry by 4 & 3 and wife Jan (receiving two strokes) beating Lin Rees one up.
Next week’s competition will once again be at Oliva Nova with registration at the normal time of 8:15 on March 20th.
