Martin is Shaw of top spot in qualifier tables
Martin Shaw’s purple patch of form continued at El Plantio where he won Division 1 and consolidated his position at the top of Levante’s Player of the Year and Ford Golf Leagues tables.
This was Levante’s fourth qualifier in the Ford Leagues but there is still a long way to go until the final qualifiers in March and Martin’s closest challengers in Division 1 – Mike Cuerden, Peter Hunt and Anne Edwards – will be looking to close the gap in the coming months.
Points scoring at El Plantio was poor, mainly due to the conditions. Maintenance, particularly of the greens, seems to have slipped down the list of priorities and at the moment the course is well short of its previous high standard – strange at a time of the year when other Costa Blanca courses are at their best.
Anne Edwards was the closest challenger to Martin, her 32 points were one short of the winning score, with Ken Perkins third on 31 points.
In Division 2, Roger Miller and Alan Overton scored 32 points, Roger’s lower handicap giving him the first prize. Third was Frank Carroll on 29 points.
Sally Mason won the visitors’ prize, her 33 points equalling the best score of the day, and Peter Jenkins and Anne Edwards were closest to the pins on holes 9 and 18 respectively.
