JAVEA BOWLING REPORT

CLOSE CALL IN JAVEA’S MANAGEMENT VERSUS CHAIRMAN MATCH – Sponsored by Infinity International Ltd.

The annual ‘Chairman v. Management’ bout took place on Wednesday, 9th April. There was the usual full house of 56 bowlers in total, playing the rinks discipline of 4 per team, with two woods each. Seven teams represented the Chairman squaring up against the other seven playing for the Management.

This year the Management emerged victorious, winning 5 out of the 7 matches played. Amazingly though, the shot difference overall came out at 103 shots to the Management versus 102 shots to the Chairman, a really close call.

The Sponsor, Infinity International Ltd, put out a team member, Glenn Tullet, playing with Alan Phillips, Dave Carvath and Shirley Payne, who acquitted himself very well on behalf of the Chairman’s squad, but they unfortunately got pipped at the post on the last end by Tony McKenna, Phil Woodhead, Jan Phillips and Olive Lutz with a scoreline of 19-17 shots.

In the Clubhouse, after an excellent lunch, the Trophy was passed over from the Chairman, Jim Fletcher, having held it for the last few years to the Management representative, Barry Jowett, standing in for Brian Taylor.

As well as the Trophy changing hands, there were other prizes on offer, in the form of bottles of wine supplied by Infinity International. The top scoring team, representing the Chairman, of Phil Harding, Janet Neale, Pat Pittaway and Tony Lloyd were the winners, having won by an impressive 22 points to 6.

There was much hilarity when the lowest scoring team also received a bottle each, as it was their opponents of the day, namely Barry Jowett, Keith Scott, Colin Houghton and Maureen Barrie, who were quite happy to pick up the booby prize.

Once again, Match Secretary, Alan Phillips has organised and delivered a really enjoyable and entertaining day’s bowling. The weather was balmy and the whole match was played in a spirit of great camaraderie – who could ask for anything more.
