Visit La Nucía on a Sunday

Inland Valencia Alicante - April 2013

User Rating: / 0

Last Sunday two more Spanish "artesanos" and a juggler joined the group of artists and craftsmen who take part every Sunday morning in the weekly Craft Fair held in the old town centre of La Nucía. Since the beginning of February, more than 40 craft people have taken it in turn to set up shop in the lovely square in front of the church and the Town Hall, so that every week something different is on display.

The nice atmosphere in the fair can be noticed in the photographs that are published every week on the web page of Amata, the organizing craft association (direct link: Amata wants to establish a place where the public can meet real craft people. As most participants live and work in the area and come to the fair at least once a month or even more often, special orders can be placed one week and picked up week or more later.

Although there are only a dozen stall on any given Sunday, the fair is interesting enough to include in a Sunday outing, as it can be combined with a visit to the boot sale (Rastro) on the industrial estate of La Nucía, or a guided tour through the old town centre (English spoken). And the coming two Sundays you can even go on a "tapas" tour: 20 local bars offer on 26, 27 and 28 April and 3, 4 and 5 de May a glass of beer or

wine with a special "tapa" for only 2EUR.

On the 28th of April the fair (and the terrace of the bar on the square) will be livened up by Maxi and Dixi, two life size musical puppets and on the 5th of May by juggler Alan from Circo Kono. If that is still not enough to fill your day, you can go for a picnic near the waterfall Font de la Favara, just outside La Nucía on the way to Altea, or you can go further inland to touristic attractions such as Chirles, Polop, the Fuentes del Algar or the Castle of Guadalest.
